Workshop Session I: Goals

1. Confirm participant familiarity with Workshop approach, structure, format, resources
2. Create foundation for the rest of the Workshop
   • Begin to build a common conceptual vocabulary and understanding
   • Create foundation to improve participant network(s)
   • Understand particular participant goals and potential contributions to the network
3. Identify key concepts related to life cycle approaches to research, data, and disasters
4. Begin to unpack the concepts implicit in the terms ‘data science’ and ‘information infrastructure’
5. Expand notion of data science to include data management/curation in addition to other elements such as analytics
6. Understand important dimensions of the concept infrastructure, particularly recognizing the socially-constructed dimension
